18 Jun (NucNet): A Russian-led consortium bidding to construct two new nuclear reactor units at the Temelín nuclear plant in the Czech Republic has established a new company which would be responsible for preparing and carrying out the project.
The MIR-1200 consortium, which comprises of JSC Atomstroyexport, JSC OKB Gidropress and Škoda JS, and is proposing its MIR (Modernised International Reactor) 1200 unit for Temelín, said Nuclear Power Alliance would be in charge of construction of Temelín-3 and -4 if the consortium wins the bid.
Nuclear Power Alliance, to be based in Prague, is a joint-stock company whose main shareholders are the three members of the MIR-1200 consortium. Atomstroyexport will have 51 percent of the shares, Škoda 34 percent and Gidropress 15 percent.
Atomstroyexport and Gidropress are both subsidiaries of Russia’s state atomic energy corporation Rosatom.
Rosatom said in a statement that if the MIR-1200 project is chosen, Nuclear Power Alliance will cooperate on the Temelín project with nearly 350 Czech, Slovak, Russian, and other European companies.
In July 2012, Czech utility CEZ received three bids to develop and deliver two nuclear reactor units at Temelín.
Westinghouse wants to build two AP1000 nuclear reactor units and Areva has put forward a bid for two European Pressurised Water Reactors (EPR1600s).
In October 2012, CEZ told Areva it had failed to meet statutory requirements for building the two new units. Areva said it planned to file an objection.
