22 Nov (NucNet): Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom held a technical seminar this week with UK government agency officials and industry representatives on its Generation III+ VVER-TOI light water reactor design, as part of its plan to apply for design approval that would allow the reactor to be built in the UK.

Rosatom subsidiary Rusatom Overseas said in a statement yesterday that the seminar on the VVER-TOI, or “typical optimised informative-advanced” reactor, was held for the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the Office for Nuclear Regulation, and the Environment Agency.

British officials also discussed with Rosatom the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process for new reactor designs and outlined “what they expect” from the Russian side if they start the GDA process, Rusatom Overseas said.
