4 Nov (NucNet): Ukrainian companies Energoatom and Turboatom signed a number of contracts in Brussels last week, official statements said. On 28 October, Turboatom, a major Ukrainian nuclear equipment manufacturer, signed a memorandum of understanding with Holtec International for the production and delivery of 94 ventilated storage casks to meet Ukraine’s domestic spent fuel storage needs. On the same day, Ukraine’s nuclear operator Energoatom concluded two cooperation agreements with Belgian companies Transnubel and Tractebel Engineering. The deal with Transnubel, a radioactive material transportation operator, provides for the possibility of transporting nuclear fuel from a Westinghouse manufacturing plant in Sweden to Ukrainian nuclear power stations. The agreement with Tractebel, an energy infrastructure engineering and consulting company, opens the possibility of Belgian companies taking part in projects to improve the safety of Ukrainian nuclear stations. In September, Ukraine renounced an agreement with Russia’s Rosatom on construction of the Khmelnitski-3 And -4 nuclear units.
