BKW Has Addressed All Issues At Switzerland’s Mühleberg, Says Regulator

12 Feb (NucNet): The operator of the single-unit Mühleberg nuclear power station in Switzerland has implemented all recommendations made by an International Atomic Energy Agency Operational Safety Review Team (Osart) mission undertaken in October 2012, Switzerland’s Federal Inspectorate for Nuclear Safety (ENSI) said.

According to the IAEA the original mission made a number of recommendations and suggestions for consideration by utility BKW-FMB Energie AG (BKW), which developed “corrective action plans”.

The IAEA said BKW had strengthened its monitoring of the facility, further minimised radiation doses to workers, improved measures to prevent contamination, and confirmed that safety cables are able to resist environmental conditions for long-term operation.

The IAEA had also called on BKW to improve its industrial safety programme, clarify management expectations regarding tasks carried out by shift operators, and reinforce “a thorough analysis” of operational experience.

ENSI said today it had been able to ensure that BKW had fully addressed areas for improvement at Mühleberg and all suggestions of the Osart mission. http://bit.ly/1PQS0fG
