TVO Awards Contract For Olkiluoto Installation And Piping Work

28 Apr (NucNet): Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) has awarded Finland’s Empower AB a contract for equipment installation and piping erection work on the turbine islands of the Olkiluoto-1 and -2 nuclear reactor units. The project includes replacement of the original high-pressure preheaters and the development of a new secondary condensate pumping system, a statement said. The investment will reduce the possibility of unplanned plant disturbances and improve net electrical output, said Sami Jakonen, TVO’s senior vice-president of engineering. The work will be carried out during annual outages in 2017 and 2018. Empower said the project consists essentially of component installation and piping welding work. TVO said its investments in the two boiling water reactors total approximately €50m ($56m) a year. Olkiluoto-1 began commercial operation in October 1979 and Olkiluoto-2 in July 1982.
