Reactor Internals Completed For China’s Tianwan-3
China’s Tianwan NPP

26 Aug (NucNet): Assembly of the reactor internals for Unit 3 of the Tianwan nuclear power station under construction in Jiangsu province has been completed, general contractor China National Nuclear Corporation said in a statement. The reactor pressure vessel internals support the core, provide a path for coolant flow, and guide the movement of the control rods. The next steps comprise assembling the control rod drive mechanisms and core sensor monitoring system. Construction of Tianwan-3, a Russian VVER-1000 nuclear unit, began in December 2012. There are four VVER-1000 nuclear units at Tianwan – two commercially operational and two under construction. Construction of a fifth unit, Tianwan-5, started in December 2015. It will be a domestic CNP-1000.
