Areva Supplies Safety I&C System For Russia’s Novovoronezh 2-1

4 Jan (NucNet): Areva NP, the nuclear reactor unit of France’s Areva, has supplied the safety instrumentation and control system (I&C) for Russia’s first Generation-III+ nuclear unit at Novovoronezh 2-1 in the west of the country, Areva said in a statement. Areva has manufactured and supplied I&C equipment for other nuclear stations in Russia, including Leningrad, Novovoronezh and Kola, Kirill Komarov, first deputy chief executive of Russia’s state corporation Rosatom, was quoted in the statement as saying. He said Rosatom has “positive experience” of cooperating with Areva in I&C development both for new build and existing plant modernisation. According to Areva, Areva NP has already supplied digital reactor protection system for new build projects in Russia, China and Slovakia and has completed a number of modernisation projects in Russia, Hungary, Slovakia and Finland. Novovoronezh 2-1 is a Generation-III+ VVER 1200/392M pressurised water reactor unit with a design net capacity of 1,114 MW. The unit began commercial operation on 31 December 2016, according to data by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
