Units used by NucNet

NucNet uses metric units based on ISO recommendations.
Non-metric units are normally recalculated.
Details of common recalculation factors can be found in the downloadable table ‘Multiplication Factors for Conversion of US and British to Metric Units’ (PDF format).

Using scientific notation (for example, 3·10-3) often results in misunderstanding when communicating with a general audience.
To prevent confusion, NucNet uses named prefixes (for example, nano = n for a billionth and milli = m for a thousandth of an ISO unit; or kilo = k for a thousand and giga = G for billion times a ISO unit) or named factors of the so-called short scale (e.g., one billion for 1,000,000,000). The downloadable table ‘Named Prefixes and Named Factors for ISO Units’ gives the details.
