Wood Secures Contract For Technical Assistance On UK’s Bradwell B Nuclear Project
An HPR1000 reactor under construction at Fangchenggang, China

27 Feb (NucNet): Scotland-based multinational Wood has secured a framework agreement to provide technical assistance for a project to build China’s Generation III HPR1000 nuclear plant, known as Hualing One, at Bradwell B in Essex.

The company said on 27 February 2018 it is supporting General Nuclear System (GNS), a joint venture between China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) and EDF Energy, as it seeks preliminary regulatory assessment of the UK HPR1000 reactor proposed for the Bradwell nuclear site in Essex. Wood did not say how much the agreement would be worth.

The UK’s joint nuclear regulators, the Office for Nuclear Regulation and the Environment Agency, are carrying out a generic design assessment (GDA) of the UK HPR1000 reactor.

Wood began working with CGN nearly four years ago and has helped to produce a number of key documents for submission to UK regulators in relation to Bradwell B, including the GDA preliminary safety report and the GDA pre-construction environmental report.

The reference plant for Bradwell B is CGN’s Fangchenggang Plant Unit 3 in China, which is under construction and on schedule.
