16 Oct (NucNet): The Haiyang-2 nuclear unit under construction in northeast China was connected to the grid at 09:51 local time on 13 October 2018, China State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) said in a statement.

The company said all technical indicators met the design requirements and the unit was operating as intended.

Haiyang-2 is a Westinghouse Generation III+ AP1000 pressurised water reactor. Construction of the unit began in June 2010.

In 2007 Westinghouse won a bid to build for AP1000 units in China – two at Haiyang in Shandong Province and two at Sanmen in Zhejiang Province.

In September 2018 Sanmen-1 became the first AP1000 in the world to begin commercial operation.
