The general safety objectives and design options for a planned central spent nuclear fuel storage facility in France are satisfactory, but additional studies are needed, especially concerning long-term guarantees of the facility’s ability to prevent and contain leaks, regulator ASN said.ASN said the new facility is needed because existing storage capacity is likely to be full between 2025 and 2035.
