2 Jan (NucNet): Total production at the Olkiluoto nuclear power station in 2018 was 14.1 TWh, meeting about one sixth of the total electricity consumption in Finland, owner and operator Teollisuuden Voima Oyj said.

The combined load factor of the two 890-MW boiling water reactor units was 91.1%, TVO said.

Production at Olkiluoto-2 was 7.33 TWh, the third best in the history of the unit, which began commercial operation in July 1982. The unit’s load factor was 94.3%.

Olkiluoto-1, which began commercial operation in October 1979, produced 6.76 TWh of electricity and achieved a load factor of 87.8%, TVO said.

The lower load factor at Olkiluoto-1 was the result of large-scale modification and repair projects during an annual outage, TVO said. The modifications resulted in an increase in the rated output of the plant unit from 880 MW to 890 MW, said Marjo Mustonen, TVO’s senior vice-president for electricity production.

In 2018 the Finnish government ratified the extension of the operating licences at Olkiluoto-1 and Olkiluoto-2 until 2038.
