10 May (NucNet): Russia has sent its first delegation to a meeting of the steering committee for nuclear energy, the highest decision-making body at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Nuclear Energy Agency, in which all 31 member countries are represented.

The Paris-based agency said in a statement that highlights of the meeting included the approval of the text of a joint declaration on cooperation with the China Atomic Energy Authority, the adoption of a statement on the security of supply of medical radioisotopes and a policy debate on NEA actions in response to the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear power plant accident.

In May 2012, Russia became the second non-OECD member to become an NEA member. South Korea joined the NEA in 1993 and then the OECD in 1996.
