27 Sept (NucNet): A conference on spent nuclear fuel strategy to be held in Brussels next month will include discussions and case studies on safe SNF management and SNF policies in the European Union.

The Nuclear Spent Fuel Strategy Forum, to be held at the NH Hotel du Grand Sablon on 10 and 11 October 2013, will begin with a keynote speech by Maurizio Boella, the head of nuclear energy technology, nuclear waste and decommissioning in the directorate general for energy at the European Commission.

Mr Boella will discuss the regulatory environment for SNF and how national frameworks for the safe management of SNF should be implemented within the European nuclear framework.

Other presentations will include an OECD Nuclear Energy Agency study on the economics of the back-end nuclear fuel cycle and analysis of EDF’s fuel management practices.
