29 Nov (NucNet): The China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGNPG) has signed a letter of intent with Romanian power generation company Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica to invest in the country’s Cernavodă-3 and -4 nuclear units.

The Romanian government also signed a memorandum of understanding on the peaceful use of nuclear energy with China’s National Energy Administration.

Romania has been looking for investors for units 3 and 4 at the Cernavodă plant since four initial investors pulled out of the project in 2011.

Romania has two commercially operational Canadian Candu 6 reactors with a maximum output of 650 megawatts each at the Cernavodă power plant. The proposed units 3 and 4 are also to be Candu 6 units.
