18 May (NucNet): The nuclear industry in the US is facing challenges brought about by competition in some states with subsidised renewables, but legislation passed by one state could lead the way to all forms of low-carbon generation being allowed to compete on an equal footing, said Maria Korsnick, Exelon Generation’s senior vice-president for Northeast operations and chief nuclear officer for Constellation Energy Nuclear Group. In an interview with NucNet Ms Korsnick said the legislation, which supports the continued operation of Illinois’ 11 nuclear units, “creates a level playing field”. She said: “It is interesting that this type of legislation has come in at a state level and it would be good if we could have something similar on the federal level. Still, this is a huge step forward.” The full interview is online for subscribers: http://bit.ly/1B70apK.
