China Establishes First National Nuclear Emergency Response Team

26 May (NucNet): China has established its first national nuclear emergency response team to deal with potential nuclear accidents, the state-owned nuclear operator China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) said in a statement on its website. In a separate statement China’s nuclear safety authority, the National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA), said the team will be responsible for dealing with nuclear accidents and could take part in international rescue operations. CNNC said the team is made up of 320 members, divided into six teams, that will provide technical support, evacuation, rescue, radiation monitoring, decontamination and medical treatment.
