8 Jun (NucNet): UK-based Rolls Royce and France-based Schneider Electric have been chosen as the preferred main automation systems suppliers for the Hanhikivi-1 nuclear power plant to be built in northern Finland, project developer Fennovoima said on 8 June 2017. The company said the final contract is still subject to negotiations. The contract, which will include both the design and delivery of automation systems, will be worth “hundreds of millions of euros”. Fennovoima said Rolls Royce would deliver safety automation systems, while Schneider Electric would supply the operational instrumentation and control systems. Hanhikivi-1 will be a 1,200-MW VVER pressurised water reactor supplied for Fennovoima by Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom. It is scheduled to enter commercial operation in 2024. Preparatory construction work has begun, Fennovoima said.
