By David Dalton
2 November 2012

2 Nov (NucNet): The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) has elected Jacques Regaldo, formerly operating senior vice-president of the generation and engineering division at EDF Group, as chairman.

The appointment was made at the organisation’s board meeting in Tokyo, Japan on 31 October 2012.

Mr Regaldo will replace Laurent Stricker, who was elected chairman in January 2009 and re-elected for a second term in July 2010.

Mr Regaldo said one of his priorities will be implementation of decisions taken at WANO’s 2011 biennial general meeting in Shenzhen, China, including new commitments to nuclear safety developed following the March 2011 Fukushima-Daiichi accident in Japan.

In September 2012, WANO and the International Atomic Energy Agency signed a new memorandum of understanding to reflect “increased cooperation” between the two organisations following Fukushima-Daiichi.

WANO is a non-profit member association established in 1989 by the world’s nuclear power operators to exchange safety knowledge and operating experience. See www.wano.info.
