South Korea Units Offline Over ‘Falsified Test Reports’

31 May (NucNet): Two of South Korea’s nuclear reactor units were ordered offline for the replacement of safety-related cabling, installed as a result of falsified environmental qualification test reports, the country’s Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) said.

The NSSC said Shin-Kori-2 and Shin-Wolsong-1 have been ordered offline, while the current maintenance period of a further unit, Shin-Kori-1, will be extended for cabling to be replaced.

In addition, the NSSC said cabling must be replaced at the new Shin-Wolsong-2, which is under construction, before an operating licence can be issued.

The NSSC said it has been investigating cases of fake test reports since the beginning of the year and plans to continue the investigation.
