2 May (NucNet): Japan’s Toshiba Corporation says it will invest 200 million British pounds (337 million US dollars, 243 million euros) in a nuclear power station to be built at Moorside, in Cumbria, northwest England, according to the UK Nuclear Industry Association.

Keith Parker, chief executive of the NIA, welcomed the announcement, saying England’s northwest already has an established and highly skilled nuclear workforce.

In January 2014, Toshiba reached an agreement in principle with GDF Suez of France and Iberdrola of Spain to take a 60 percent stake in NuGeneration Limited, the UK-based nuclear energy company which plans to build three Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear reactors at Moorside.
