27 Feb (NucNet): The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) has appointed Ken Ellis, executive vice-president of strategic support at Canadian nuclear operator Bruce Power, as its new managing director.

WANO said in a statement that Mr Ellis will formally replace current managing director George Felgate on 1 April 2013.

Mr Ellis said his priorities include the development and execution of WANO’s new long-term plan and post-Fukushima project work.

WANO said the appointment was made at the organisation’s board meeting in London on 29 January 2013.

Mr Ellis, a former chief nuclear officer at Bruce Power, has more than 31 years’ experience in operations, maintenance and engineering. He was named executive vice-president of strategic support in August 2012, after having served as executive vice-president and chief nuclear officer of the four-unit Bruce B nuclear power plant in Ontario since January 2010.

His career has also included a two-year assignment in France as the Ontario Hydro liaison engineer to Electricité de France. Mr Ellis was licensed as a Bruce B shift manager in the late 1980s.
