24 May (NucNet): Areva has signed a memorandum of understanding with 20 Finnish suppliers, strengthening its commitment to use local industrial and nuclear expertise in its projects in Finland as well as abroad.

Areva said that with more than 300 Finnish companies already qualified as sub-contractors, its network of industrial partners in Finland is one of its largest.

More than 100 Finnish suppliers are working on the Olkiluoto-3 European Pressurised Water Reactor project, with no less than 40 in safety-related work. Areva said approximately 70 percent of the scope of work for such a nuclear power plant project is available for procurement by local companies.

Finland’s Fennovoima is considering building a medium-sized reactor at the Hanhikivi nuclear site and sees Areva, Toshiba and Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom as possible suppliers.
