21 Mar (NucNet): The dome has been installed on the containment building of Unit 6 at the Fuqing nuclear power station in Fujian province, southeastern China, Chinese National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and state news agency Xinhua said on 21 March 2018.

Fuqing-6 is the second of two demonstration Generation III Hualong One units being built at the site. The reactor dome was installed at its sister unit, Fuqing-5, in May 2017.

Fuqing-5 is expected to begin commercial operation in 2019 or 2020 and Fuqing-6 in 2020 or 2021. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, construction of Fuqing-5 began in May 2015 and of Fuqing-6 in December 2015.

The Hualong One, or HPR1000, is an indigenous 1,100 MW, three-loop pressurised water reactor. It incorporates elements of CNNC’s ACP1000 and China General Nuclear’s ACPR1000+ reactor designs.
