Russia Ships Set Of Steam Generators For India’s Kudankulam-3

22 Oct (NucNet): Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom has shipped a set of four steam generators – each weighing about 340 tonnes – for Unit 3 of the Kudankulam nuclear power station under construction in Tamil Nadu, southern India, a statement said.

The generators were manufactured by Russian nuclear equipment manufacturer Atomenergomash, a Rosatom subsidiary.

Atomenergomash said the steam generators are being transported overland to St Petersburg and from there around Europe and through the Suez Canal to India, a distance of around 21,000 km.

Construction of Kudankulam-3, a Russia-procured VVER-1000 pressurised water reactor, began in June 2017. Construction of a fourth unit began at Kudankulam in October 2017 and two more units are planned for the site.

Earlier this month India and Russia signed an agreement to build six new nuclear power plants in India.

According to Rosatom, the agreement is to develop six Russian-designed nuclear power units “at a new site in India”.
