28 Jan (NucNet): Areva said today it had signed a long-term uranium conversion contract with Electricite de France worth “several hundred million euros”.
The contract, due to come into force this year, will be fulfilled initially by output from Areva’s Comurhex plants, then from 2012 onwards by the new Comurhex II conversion facilities in southern France, the company said.
In 2007, Areva said the Comurhex II project would see the group build new facilities at existing sites in Narbonne and Tricastin. Comurhex, a subsidiary of Areva NC and member of the Areva group, converts natural uranium into uranium hexafluoride (UF6), a product used to fabricate nuclear fuel.
Details of the contract are available in English and French on Areva’s web site (www.areva.com).
