28 January 2010

28 Jan (NucNet): Areva said today that it is creating a new organisation for its nuclear and renewables activities.

The new operational structure comprises six business groups: Mining, Front End, Reactors & Services, Back End, Renewable Energies and Transmission and Distribution (T&D). The T&D business, which is being sold to the Alstom/Schneider consortium, will remain a business group until its effective transfer, Areva said.

In addition, a cross-company ‘Engineering and Projects Organisation’ has been created to cover all nuclear activities, including skills in design, project management, inspection and construction and commissioning.

Areva said the new structure would help to “better position the group to capitalise on the nuclear renaissance and the development of renewable energies”.

Luc Oursel, a member of Areva’s executive board, has been appointed executive officer in charge of nuclear operations.
