One of the two remaining operating reactors at the Indian Point nuclear power station in Buchanan, New York, was shut down permanently on 30 April, with a Department of Energy official saying it was “extremely disappointing” to lose a plant that produced reliable, clean energy to the residents of New York City for 45 years.
