Unit 2 of the Chernobyl nuclear power station has been shut down after a fire in a turbine hall in the plant yesterday (Friday). The fire damaged the roof of the hall, which is in the non-nuclear part of the unit. There was no release of radioactivity and no injuries. The fire has been provisionally classed as a level 1 event on the IAEA International Nuclear Event Scale.
