13 Oct (NucNet): Two Chinese nuclear reactors, Changjiang-1 and Yangjiang-3, have achieved first criticality, operators said. Changjiang-1, a 610-megawatt domestic Generation-II CNP-600 nuclear unit in Hainan province, southern China, reached first criticality on 12 September at 03:39 local time, China National Nuclear Corporation said. Yangjiang-3, a 1,000-megawatt domestic Generation-II CPR-1000 reactor in Guangdong province, southern China, achieved first criticality on 11 October at 07:50 local time, investment company China Nuclear Industry 23 International Corporation said. The two units will undergo a series of tests before they can be connected to the grid, operators said.
