2 Sep (NucNet): Construction of two Westinghouse AP1000 reactor units in the first phase of the Cangzhou Haixing nuclear power project in northeastern China could begin in 2016 with commercial operation in 2020, the local government has said.
The Hebei Cangzhou government said there are plans to build six AP1000 units at the site, in the province of Hebei. Westinghouse has not confirmed the proposals or released any information about the project.
China Huadian Hebei Nuclear Power Company, the project company, said total investment in the project will be in the region of 100 billion remninbi (RMB) (about 16 billion US dollars, 12 billion euros) with RMB 8.4 billion invested in phase one.
Last week it was announced that Jionto Energy Investment, which has interests in energy generation, banking, restaurants and retail, will invest RMB 844 million in the project.
