11 Oct (NucNet): Hilal Bil Badi and Partners Contracting Company (Hilalco) has won a 60 million US dollars (45 million euros) contract to construct a cooling water system for the four nuclear power reactors the United Arab Emirates is building at Barakah in the western region of Abu Dhabi.
The contract for the locally based company was awarded by main contractor Korea Electric Power Company (Kepco) and approved by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation following a competitive procurement tender.
Hilalco will construct circulating water intake structures which will form part of the circulating water system at the plants and provide cooling water for the turbine condensers and turbine generator building cooling water heat exchangers.
Kepco won the contract to build the four APR-1400 units at Barakah in December 2009. In March 2013, ENEC said construction work on the first two units was on schedule. First safety concrete was poured for Unit 1 in July 2012 and for Unit 2 in May 2013.
