EC Urges Bucharest To Recover €13M In Aid From National Uranium Company
The European Commission has urged Romania to recover some €13m of incompatible rescue aid received by Romania’s fully state-owned uranium company CNU (Compania Națională a Uraniului) in 2016, plus interest. The Commission has found that various Romanian public support measures in favour of CNU were not in line with EU rules on state aid to companies in difficulty, it said in a press release.Commission executive vice-president Margrethe Vestager, in charge of competition policy, said a government can support a company in financial difficulty if the company has a sound restructuring plan which ensures its return to long-term viability, contributes to the cost of its restructuring and competition distortions are limited.
