The two units at the Fessenheim nuclear power station near Colmar in northeast France will be successively shut down in February and June 2020, French minister for inclusive and ecological transition Emmanuelle Wargon was quoted by local media as saying.According to Le Figaro, the two Fessenheim units were initially supposed to close in March and August 2020 under a schedule proposed by Ms Wargon’s predecessor François de Rugy in February this year.Fessenheim-1 and -2 are both 880-MW pressurised water reactor units which began commercial operation in 1978. This makes them the oldest reactor units still operational in the French nuclear fleet.
