The French reactor fleet generated 379.5 TWh of electricity in 2019, about 3.5% less than in 2018, because of unexpected outage extensions, state-controlled utility EDF said in its latest annual report.

In the UK, EDF’s nuclear plants generated 51 TWh, a decrease of 8.1 TWh over 2018 due to extended outages at Hunterston B and Dungeness B, the report shows.

In Belgium, nuclear output increased over the previous year as most of the country’s fleet, operated by Engie, came back online after several protracted outages in 2018.

EDF said its 2019 sales amounted to €71.3bn, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) were at €16.7bn. Both figures increased over 2018 by 3.5% and 8.4% respectively.

The company said it had a net income* of €3.9bn in 2019, a 57.9% increase from 2018’s €2.4bn. EDF’s investments for 2019 grossed at €13.9bn.
