Inspection has been completed of a new batch of nuclear fuel supplied by Russia for the first planned reload at Unit 1 of the Belarusian nuclear power station.

This is the first batch of fuel produced for the Belarusian station at a plant operated by state nuclear fuel company Tvel, a Rosatom subsidiary, at a facility in Elektrosal, east of Moscow. The startup loads for Belarusian-1 and Belarusian-2 were produced at Tvel’s Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant in southwest Siberia.
Tvel said both facilities can produce fuel for VVER-1200 reactors and this allows for flexibility of production and increases the reliability of supply.
The company said there are five VVER-1200 units in operation and their number will grow as Rosatom implements more foreign projects.
