A Japanese high court has rejected an appeal from a citizens group to suspend operation of the Genkai-3 and -4 nuclear power units in the southwest Saga Prefecture, operator Kyushu Electric Power Company said.Reports in local media said the Fukuoka High Court upheld a March 2018 decision the lower-instance Saga District Court to turn down a petition by 70 local residents against the operation on the two-unit nuclear plant. The petitioners had argued there was a volcanic eruption risk from Mount Aso in neighboring Kumamoto Prefecture, and Kyushu Electric had insufficient measures in place to protect the nuclear units from natural disasters.
