2 Jul (NucNet): IBM is to establish a Global Centre of Excellence for Nuclear Power in La Gaude, southern France, to support nuclear electricity generation by energy companies worldwide.
The new centre will extend IBM’s existing work with nuclear energy companies on improved design, construction, safety and operation of nuclear power plants.
IBM said today that France possesses world-class expertise in the area of nuclear energy. The centre will mean IBM can use local IBM nuclear systems staff, as well as the advanced skills of a leading nuclear energy market.
The centre will capitalise on IBM’s experience in the deployment and modelling of nuclear equipment at nearby Cadarache, site of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) fusion project.
It will help nuclear energy operators install IT systems, and define and share best practice business processes, said IBM. It will also serve as a demonstration centre.
