Industry Faces ‘Global Challenge’ To Find Long-Term Options

There is a global challenge to establish long-term disposal options for intermediate-level radioactive waste (ILW), high-level radioactive waste (HLW) and spent nuclear fuel, a recent International Atomic Energy Agency meeting concluded.The technical meeting on status and trends in spent fuel and radioactive waste management, heard there has been a decline in spent fuel management by reprocessing, most notably due to the UK’s plans to cease reprocessing in 2020.
