Japan Regulator Approves BWR Unit’s Compatibility With New Regulatory Requirements
The Japanese Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) has completed a review confirming that the Onagawa-2 nuclear power plant meets the latest regulatory safety requirements, removing one hurdle towards a possible restart of the 796-MW boiling water reactor unit in Miyagi Prefecture.

NRA’s approval means Onagawa-2 became the 16th nuclear plant to pass an examination for compatibility with new regulatory standards, and the fourth such BWR, according to a statement by the Japan Atomic Industry Forum (Jaif).
