14 Sep (NucNet): Japan’s Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) has asked for a total budget of 495.8 billion Japanese yen (JPY) (4.3 billion US dollars, 3 billion euro) for fiscal year 2008, an increase of almost 10 percent from 2007.
The Japanese Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF) said of the total amount, JPY 147.5 billion, representing an in crease of 13.1 percent, has been earmarked for the general account. JPY 348.3 billion (up 8.3 percent) is for a special energy development account, which includes projects such as the siting of facilities.
Broken down by ministries, the draft budget includes approximately JPY 289 billion for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and JPY 195.5 billion for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
