Jet Upgrades Clear Path For Vital Deuterium-Tritium Experiments
Significant upgrades to the Joint European Torus (Jet) facility at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy in England have led to the start of a scientific programme leading to key deuterium-tritium experiments scheduled for next year.CCFE said in a statement that the upgrades to Jet – such as its inner wall of beryllium and tungsten – have effectively turned it into a miniature version of the the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (Iter) under construction at Cadarache in southern France.“Jet is now as close as any device can get to Iter’s operating conditions,” the statement said.
