21 Jun (NucNet): John Jenkins has been appointed as permanent chief executive officer of the UK Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) as part of a restructuring plan which will see the national regulator become an independent statutory orgaisation.
Mr Jenkins was appointed permanently to the post as of 1 June 2013, after he had assumed the role of acting CEO on 11 June 2012. He was previously managing director of Morgan Sindall Professional Services, a multi-national and multi-disciplinary consultancy.
The ONR was established on 1 April 2011 as an agency of the Health and Safety Executive with its predecessor organisations originating in the 1950s. It is being restructured to create an independent, statutory organisation which will be separate from the government.
