Nuclear generation rose by 2.4%, its fastest growth since 2010, with China contributing almost 75% of that growth at 10 million tonnes of oil equivalent,a report by energy company BP said. The largest declines in generation were in South Korea (-3 mtoe) and Belgium (-3 mtoe). Nuclear consumption grew 18.6% in China in 2018 following growth in 2017 of 14.9%.Japan (five mtoe) saw the second largest increase in consumption due to reactors resuming commercial operation as they met new safety standards introduced following the 2011 Fukushima-Daiichi accident.
