10 Jul (NucNet): US-based Lightbridge Corporation and the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) of Norway have signed an agreement that represents “a major step” towards demonstration of Lightbridge’s advanced metallic nuclear fuel in a commercial power reactor. The agreement is for irradiation testing of Lightbridge advanced metallic nuclear fuel samples under prototypic commercial reactor operating conditions at IFE’s Halden research reactor, southeast of Oslo. “These irradiation tests will generate quantifiable data needed to support licensing of Lightbridge fuel by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and deployment by nuclear utilities in commercial reactors,” a statement said. Details of the Lightbridge fuel are online: http://bit.ly/1jLXpoY
