15 Jun (NucNet): The UK’s Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) has appointed Lord O’Neill of Clackmannan as its chairman. Lord O’Neill takes over from Bill Bryce of energy company Doosan Babcock who has been interim chairman since the turn of the year.
Lord O’Neill, a veteran Labour politician and member of the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology, said he was relishing the challenge at such a vital time for the UK civil nuclear industry.
Keith Parker, NIA chief executive said he was delighted Lord O’Neill was joining the organisation. He said the UK nuclear industry had a higher profile than ever before, with decommissioning and the possibility of new nuclear power stations “posing both opportunities and challenges”.
The NIA is the trade association and representative voice of Britain’s civil nuclear industry. It represents more than 135 companies.
