18 May (NucNet): Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Japan is to construct a new plant for the production of steam turbines for nuclear power plants on the site of its existing Takasago Machinery Works.
MHI did not say how much it would be investing in the new plant, but said investment would be over three years beginning this year. The company said the plant would be capable of producing nuclear power plant turbines for both replacement and new units in Japan and overseas.
MHI has supplied turbines to all 23 pressurised water reactor (PWR) units in operation in Japan and recently also exported at turbine to Slovenia for the Krsko nuclear power plant, also a PWR.
