Long-anticipated plant on track to full power in summer
The Mochovce-3 nuclear reactor unit in southwest Slovakia has achieved 55% of its design power level as commissioning procedures gain pace, operator Slovenske Elektrarne said.
The 471-MW pressurised water reactor unit of the Russia-designed VVER-440 type has generated 150 GWh of electricity since it was connected to the grid in February 2023.
It is expected to reach 100% power between May and June 2023, Slovenske Elektrarne said.

Slovakia operates four commercial nuclear reactors – two at Mochovce and two at Bohunice – all of the VVER-440 type. The fleet generated about 52% of the country’s electricity in 2021.
Mochovce-3 is expected to meet about 13% of Slovakia’s electricity consumption, enough to fuel about 750,000 households.
Operation of Mochovce-3, Slovakia’s fifth unit, could bring the share of nuclear in the country’s electricity generation to 65%, putting it second behind only France, with 69%.
