3 Apr (NucNet): Areva is to supply mixed-oxide (MOX) fuel assemblies to Japan’s Ohma nuclear power plant under a contract signed today.
Ohma is scheduled to enter operation in 2014. Under today’s agreement with plant operator the Electric Power Development Company (now known as J-Power), the MOX will be fabricated at Areva’s Melox plant in southern France, using Japanese plutonium recycled at Areva’s La Hague facility.
Ohma, in Aomori prefecture in the north of the country, will comprise a single 1,383-megawatt (gross) advanced boiling water reactor (ABWR) unit with a full MOX core. It will be the world’s first full-MOX light water reactor.
