24 Sep (NucNet): The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has sent a team of inspectors to the Peach Bottom nuclear power plant in the state of Pennsylvania to investigate information that security officers may have been inattentive while on duty.
The NRC team arrived on site on 21 September 2007. The twin-unit plant is operated by Exelon Nuclear, which is carrying out its own investigation into the information.
The inspectors are expected to spend at least a week at the site before returning to an NRC regional office where the information they have gathered will be analysed and evaluated.
The NRC said in a statement: “The inspection team will comprehensively assess the Peach Bottom security issues to confirm that the security programme is being effectively implemented.”
